Evo Dog Food: How to Choose an Evo Meat-Based Dog Food

Dogs eat meat and the manufacturers of Evo dog food know that. That's why the majority of their dog food products are based on what they call an “ancestral diet.”

That means, their main ingredients are derived from meat sources like turkey, chicken fat and herring meal.

Despite the simplicity of their formula, their product selection is decidedly complex, with seemingly hundreds of different blends, flavors and sizes to choose from. For an overview of the different types of Evo dog food, including which pet they're appropriate for, keep reading.

Innova Dog Foods

Innova is the company's trademark line and features not only meat-based ingredients, but also grains, fruits, vegetables and vitamin supplements. It's available in wet and dry format.

Innova is not recommended for dogs with grain allergies or sensitivities.

California Natural Line

The idea behind the California Natural line of dog foods was to make a dog food with as few ingredients as possible. Typically, it's used as an isolation diet, or a way for veterinarians to draw out possible food allergies. It's also great for animals with food sensitivities, digestive problems or allergies.

Unless your dog needs to be on a full-time California Natural diet, he may find this blend bland-tasting and boring.

HealthWise Line

HealthWise was created as a high-value, low-price line of dog foods that included blends like rice-free food, high-fiber food, high protein food and puppy and senior dog blends. It's often recommended by veterinarians and considered great value for the price.

Don't start your dog on a new or drastically different diet without first consulting a veterinarian. Making a sudden switch to high-fiber or no rice could cause digestive problems.

Evo Healthy Pet Food

This blend of Evo dog food is all about celebrating the carnivore in your dog. It's a grain-free pet food and has the highest protein content out of any dry pet food. It's available in a wet and dry format and only uses human-graded, table-ready meat products.

While the grain-free approach can be great for dogs with grain or wheat sensitivities, it can be a difficult switch for older dogs who have grown up with a grain or rice-based diet.

If you're making the switch to grain-free food, consult with your veterinarian and introduce the food slowly to your dog's new diet.

Karma Organic

As the name suggests, Karma Organix dog foods are made from 95% organic ingredients. Like all Evo dog food products, focus is placed on a high-protein and meat-based content.
