Custom Search

Revolution for Cats is a topical heartworm and flea and tick medication. It's considered to be an all-in-one feline solution. To learn more about the benefits and the dangers of this drug, keep reading.

Overview of the Drug

Revolution is a topically-applied heartworm prevention medication that also kills adult fleas, stops flea eggs from hatching, treats ear mites and treats and controls hookworms and roundworms.

Basically, Revolution is applied topically and then enters the bloodstream through your cat's skin. Internally, the drug prevents heartworm, while simultaneously treating and preventing hookworm and roundworm infections.

Externally, it excretes protection against fleas and mites to the skin tissue.

Typical Dosage of Feline Revolution

Like most topical flea medications, Revolution is a small amount of liquid that is applied to the skin at the base of the neck once a month. When applying Revolution, be sure to pick a spot that your cat can't lick after the drug is applied.

Possible Side Effects of Revolution

Approximately 1% of tested dogs and cats experienced some form of digestive upset when testing Revolution. Other possible side effects included possible hair loss at the site of application and skin irritation, rash or allergies.

That said, the drug is not recommended for ill, weak or underweight animals, nor should it be given to kittens less than 5lbs or 8 weeks old. Before administering Revolution, consult with your veterinarian and make sure your cat is healthy and capable of undergoing treatment.

Because Revolution for Cats is a toxic drug, it's important to keep out of reach of children and pets. If consumed orally, contact Poison Control immediately and get to a doctor as soon as possible. Signs of overdose include vomiting, seizures, nausea, headaches and fainting.

Cost of Revolution

Typically, a six-month supply of Revolution will retail for approximately $60. A 3-month supply usually sells for about $35 to $40, depending on your retailer.

Possible Generic Revolution Alternatives

Revolution is actually a drug known as selamectin. It is available in various generic forms, so ask your veterinarian or pet pharmacy for recommendations of generic alternatives. And remember, always buy from a certified, U.S., FDA-approved supplier.

Prescription Requirements for Revolution

Revolution must be prescribed by a veterinarian. If you'd like to try Revolution or a generic selamectin alternative, ask your veterinarian for a prescription. Do not purchase Revolution from a retailer that will sell you the drug without a prescription.

Where You Can Obtain Revolution

You can buy Revolution for Cats from either your veterinarian office or most pet pharmacies. Look online or ask your veterinarian for a recommended online pharmacy.
